ROYAL Oak ‘A’ came from 2-0 and 3-1 down to beat Malton Cons 4-3 and reach the final of the Malton & Norton League Summer Cup.
Don McFarlane and Dan Pawson got Cons off to a flier and, while Chris Seager replied, Romane Reeves put the club men on the brink of the final.
But Oak struck back through captain James Milson and, in the first pairs frame, Jamie Barstow and Seager. Spencer Ward held his nerve in clearing the last three balls in the second, to the delight of pairs partner Mark Jeffels and their team.
In the final they will meet Union ‘B’, who ended Bright Steels ‘A’s 11-match unbeaten run.
The first four frames were shared as John Render, with a captain’s performance, and Dave Render scored for Union either side of Steels wins by Andrew Sedman and Ian Hoggart. Ian Blanchard put Union ahead and Darren Craggs and Render sealed a final berth with victory in the first pairs frame.
Finals night, on Monday (August 11) at Bright Steels Social Club from 7.30pm, will also see the conclusion of the men’s and ladies’ individuals competitions.
