MALTON & Norton product Rachel Lund has been selected to play in a match at Twickenham showcasing Women's Premiership rugby union.

The game will take place on Sunday, August 17, during the men's World Club 7s tournament being played over that weekend at the headquarters of English rugby union.

Lund has been selected by her club, Worcester Ladies, to participate. She is one of 20 Women's Premiership players who will comprise two teams going head to head - Vagabonds and Barbarians.

Lund learned her game at Malton & Norton in mini and girls' rugby, playing her first match at U7s level, and went on to win county honours aplenty and captain the North U18s before moving in to the big time with Worcester.

She helped the Warriors to the Women's Premiership title in 2013 for the first time in their 20-year history.

Her talent has also previously been recognised at a national level, too, with opportunities to train with England development groups.

Said Malton spokesman David Asquith of the Twickenham 7s match: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Rachel to perform on the biggest stage in English rugby and the whole club congratulates her and wishes her every success in the game."

Lund will be mixing it over the weekend at Twickers with some of the best players in the world in the short form of the 15-a-side code.

Confirmed teams include Gloucester, Cardiff Blues, Auckland, New South Wales Waratahs, DHL Western Province, Vodacom Blue Bulls, New York, Seattle, Buenos Aires, Kuban Krasnodar and Slava Moscow.

Group matches will be held on the Saturday, with knockout ties for the four available trophies on the Sunday, either side of the women's match.
