YORK golf ace Simon Dyson’s Open Championship hopes have been dashed by food poisoning.

Dyson suffered an adverse reaction to a prawn meal the night before his Open qualifying event at Scotland’s Gailles Links course.

As a consequence, the Malton & Norton Golf Club star only managed to complete four holes yesterday and was forced to withdraw after struggling to shoot two-over par.

Only outstanding performances at either the French or Scottish Opens during the next two weekends will see Dyson make the field for the prestigious Royal Liverpool tournament on July 17.
