  • "Not a good idea in my opinion to have "rests" mid season especially when your form's good. Last time Simon started "resting" he lost all his momentum."

Calm before a storm for golf ace Simon Dyson

Gazette & Herald: Simon Dyson Simon Dyson

CONTINENTAL riches and the promise of a prized place in The Open await York's Simon Dyson after a two-week break.

The ace of clubs, whose last two displays in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and last week's Nordea Masters in Sweden hoisted him 43 places up the world rankings to his current 143rd place, has withdrawn from the Lyoness Open which starts in Austria tomorrow.

And with the second major of the season, the US Open to get underway a week tomorrow at Pinehurst, then Dyson will spend the next fortnight sharpening his game for one of the European Tour's most lucrative months.

Indeed, the 36-year-old's planned return to Euro circuit duty in the Irish Open on Thursday, June 19, is followed by the BMW International in Cologne, the French Open in Paris and the Scottish Open in Aberdeen. The prize fund for that quartet of tournaments totals a cool ten million euros.

And in between the French Open and the Scottish Open, Dyson will embark on two days of qualification for The Open, the 143rd running of which will be at Hoylake on Merseyside on July 17. The venue for the qualifying rounds has yet to be revealed.
