WET weather wiped out the majority of the fixtures in the Hunters York & District Senior League on Saturday.

Widespread overnight rain led to several early call-offs and a series of heavy showers caused the abandonment of games that got under way.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge, unbeaten in the premier division, were one side to be denied a victory chance as the heavens opened in the second innings of their match at Clifton Alliance.

Bowlers had been in command throughout, with Bridge dismissed for 115, skipper Adam Fisher being the pick of the batting in making 27. The first-half honours were claimed by John Thornton, with 3-34, and Rich Carroll, who took 4-41.

After tea, the Alliance found themselves struggling as Eddie Barnes claimed two victims and they had lost three wickets for only 25 runs when yet another heavy shower ended what promised to be an interesting encounter.

The weather clearly favoured teams to the east of the league, with Beverley recording the only win in the premier division when they beat Hull Zingari by 77 runs.

Faisal Abid made 34, James Fisher 50 and Alan Acklam an undefeated 30 in Beverley’s total of 171-8 as M Wilkinson took 4-39 for Zingari.

The Hull side were then rolled over for 94, of which a remarkable 42 came from extras. G Brumfield’s 5-13 was the cutting edge, while Matt Mudd soundly supported with 3-33 in a 77-run win.

A fair amount of play was possible at Easingwold before the weather eventually had the upper hand and probably saved York from defeat as both sides took 10 points.

Kyle Waite was the home star in making 59, while Josh Greenlay added 20 in a total of 148-6 as Matt Hodsdon claimed 3-40.

When York batted, Rob Flack made 27 and Sam Beales 22, but they were struggling at 98-6 when the game ended. Steve Piercy (3-22) and A Metcalfe (2-11) made serious inroads.

Simon Leeson proved to be Pickering’s nemesis in Division One as he hit 108 to help Bridlington make 205-8 and gain the better of a draw with the Ryedale outfit.

John Major added 31, as Mark Shepherd took 4-50 and Isaac Christopher 3-28 for the Pikes.

Shepherd then followed with 29 and T Sigsworth made 37.

Casey Rudd grabbed 4-64 to put Bridlington in control, but Colin Frank then hit 58 not out and Christopher 47 not out to take the Pikes to an 18-point draw at 187-4.

Folkton & Flixton took 26 points to improve their league standing in an advantage draw with Driffield Town.

Nick Zakrewski top-scored with 74 in a total of 198 for Flixton, with Harry Walmsley and Jamie Nesfield both adding 28.

There was a sound bowling performance from Jamie Hopper, who took 5-64, while Nick Johnson had 3-38.

In reply, Driffield managed to hang in for a draw at 132-9.
