PICKERING Running Club continued their recent good form by clocking a string of personal bests in another 10-kilometre event.

A dozen members of the Ryedale club travelled to Tadcaster this month for the second of the York Road Race League fixtures.

Runners were greeted with warm and clement conditions with a new race route passing through Bramham and following a stretch of the A1(M).

Following on from his personal best performance a fortnight earlier, Simon Jones smashed his previous time by nearly a minute, clocking 38 minutes 27 seconds.

Next home for PRC was club veteran Mike Wilson, who was just short of a PB, putting in a sterling effort to finish in 43-18.

Chasing Wilson all the way was Mike Hetherton, who despite the hot pursuit could not beat his rival to the finish line and came in at 43-23.

The first Pickering lady home was Lynn Humpleby (45-31) followed by Tess Roebuck (47-10) who had a strong start but slowed after the five-kilometre marker.

Enjoying her recent purple patch was Serena Partridge, who shattered her previous best a fortnight earlier by finishing in 50-07.

New member Paul Tate-Smith also revelled in a stellar performance notching another PB of 51-06, while Karen Farmer breezed home in 52-25.

The strain of a recent mountain marathon caught up with a disappointed Sue Slack, who limped home nursing a calf injury in 54-58.

On-form Nicola Wise (57-57) was next, one place ahead of team-mate Sally Brown (58-01), while Marion Bets crossed the line in 61-56 – another PB.

Meanwhile, the next event of the region's summer fell race series will be Levisham Limping, based at Lockton Village Hall, near Pickering, tomorrow (Thursday) starting at 7pm. For more information visit: www.eskvalleyfellclub.org.

PRC off-road duo Hetherton and Humpleby had travelled to Carlton Bank, near Carlton-in-Cleveland, for the opening race of the series, a five-mile hilly dash which saw 120 runner brave cold and blustery conditions.

The latter benefited from a fast descent to the finish as she clocked 50 minutes 24 seconds to claimed the 10th lady placing.

Hetherton came in at in 52-43 and won the M65 prize for his efforts.
