YORK III won by six wickets at Thirsk in division two North of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League

The hosts were only able to post a target of 107-6.

When York replied, Stuart Christon claimed 3-26 but 28 from D Patmore ensured a comfortable win for the visitors.

With their innings restricted to 37 overs, Castleford found runs somewhat hard to come by at Sheriff Hutton Bridge and reached 85-4 in 31 overs before the fourth stoppage ended the proceedings.

Nick Scaling had two wickets for the home club, while Simon Tucker made 21 for Castleford.

The day’s tightest game took place at Driffield in division two South, where the hosts just beat Londesborough Park by three runs.

Three batsmen made decent contributions to Driffield’s 170-6 as R Curtis took 3-29 for Park. Leading the way was John Woolley, who made 68, while James Richardson made 28 and Rob Woodcock 25.

Woodcock then followed with 3-47 and Andy Rogers took 3-17 as they combined to bowl Park out for 167.

Within this score, Tim Medley made 38, Steve Dawson 55 and Jim Beevers 26.

There was another tight game at Welton, where Hornsea just managed to gain the better of a closely-fought draw.

They batted first and made 164 all out, with N Moulds making 42 and Doug Griebenouw 27 as M Hatfield captured 4-18.

When Welton responded, D Gittings made 32 and T Harrison 36, but Paul Johnson’s 3-39 proved to be decisive as Welton were restricted to 158-8.

Only one game was started in division three South as hosts Fenner gained much the better of a draw against Welton & Brough.

There was a century for Danny Parker, who hit an unbeaten 130 off only 70 balls in 69 minutes, which included ten sixes and six fours.

He shared an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 103 in a mere 38 minutes with Jon Park before their skipper declared at 208-5.

N Thompson had 3-27 for Welton, but then saw his side struggle to a draw at 108-8 as L Beaton made 34.

Division four East leaders Sutton-on-Hull walloped South Holderness by nine wickets.

Holderness were whipped out for only 47 as L Sinclair grabbed four wickets for only two runs and T Headspith supported with 3-29.

Hornsea’s batsmen failed lamentably when they entertained Cottingham and were only able to make 23-8 – presumably with only nine men present.

Doing the severe damage were Dave Furlong, who bagged five wickets for only six runs, and R Moy, who took 3-16.

Cottingham lost one wicket before recording a comfortable win.

Patrington batted first when entertaining Beverley and were all out for 95, with only Sam Stockdale, who made 24, showing any resistance.

Sam Welburn had an impressive bowling analysis of three wickets without conceding a single run, while James Emery took 3-16 and Kieran O’Brien 3-17.

Beverley then knocked off their target for the loss of six wickets, with Rob Fish making 30 not out and Tim Fordham 29.
