THE Derwent Valley League lost another team on the even of the new season as Seamer 3rds resigned from division 'B' - and the league got off to a disappointing start too as four outfits failed to raise sides.
Seamer's third string became the fourth team to quit the league in the past five weeks due to a lack of players and their departure has left just eight teams in division 'B', following Sewerby 4ths' resignation.
In the Welford Cup, Wold Newton 2nds, who were due to play Seamer 3rds, now have a bye to the semi-final. Valley Bar Nomads likewise now go through to round two of the Home Guard Sunday Cup, where they go to Flamborough.
Division 'A' title hopefuls Great Habton got off to a good start as they skittled Lockton for 52, with Liam Allanby taking 5-10 before knocking off the runs for the loss of just two wickets.
In division 'B', Lee Jack hit 46 not out as Sherburn 2nds comfortably beat Snainton having bowled them out for 95 through ben Garbutt (3-11 and Rob Worthy (4-11).
Graham Jeminson made 66 as Kirkbymoorside 2nds saw off Nawton Grange, Howard Mudd also taking 5-26.
Sewerby 3rds, Bridlington 3rds, Forge Valley 4ths and Ganton 2nds were all unable to raise sides on the day.
Meanwhile, young Johnathan Maw, the son of Derwent Valley Junior League secretary Malcolm Maw and players' registrations secretary Karen Maw, scored a maiden century as Snainton easily beat Wold Newton 2nds in the Home Guard Sunday Cup first round. maw finished on 104.
Elsewhere, Forge Valley 3rds beat Thornton Dale 2nds and Nawton Grange 2nds beat Wykeham 3rds. Kirkbymoorside 2nds and Filey 2nds failed to raise sides so forfeited their ties against Muston and Flixton 3rds respectively.
Second round ties must be played by May 18.
Ties are Forge Valley 3rds versus Great Habton, to be played on May 11, Flamborough against Valley Bar Nomads, Nawton Grange 2nds versus the winners of Cayton 3rds and Ravenscar 2nds, Muston versus Bridlington 3rds, Brompton 2nds against Snainton, Flixton 3rds versus the winners of Scalby 3rds and Ganton 2nds and Hospitals/Rugby Club against Sherburn 2nds.
