WHITBY Town finished ninth in the Evo-Stik League premier division after a 2-1 win over Stafford Rangers - the Blues’ highest placing for eight years.
Shane Henry’s first-half strike and Graeme Armstrong’s 30th goal of the campaign - a header midway through the second half - secured a decent finale for Darren Williams’ North Yorkshire outfit, who ended the campaign on a nice little run of three wins and a draw.
Liam Chambers had headed already relegated Stafford into the lead from a 15th-minute corner in front of a crowd of 362.
The match was the last in Whitby colours for goalkeeper Shane Bland, who now pursues a career in the USA. Scarborough Athletic finished their division one south campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Loughborough Dynamo in a real end-of-season affair.
Boro fell two goals down before rousing themselves, eventually halving the deficit late on through Plummer from a free-kick knocked into the box. But it was not enough, with the result confirming they would finish seventh in the table.
The pacy Luke Smithson - who gave Liam Shepherd a torrid time in the first half, leading to his withdrawal at the interval - had given the hosts a deserved lead shortly before half-time.
Smithson also won the free-kick that led to Loughborough’s second goal, scored by Nathan Watson midway through the second period.
