MALTON & Old Malton were sent spinning to a crushing 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Wheldrake slow bowler Mark Cass on the opening day of the HPH York Vale League.

Despite going for 10 runs in his first over, Cass finished with 6-21 as Malt were shot out for 61 in their division three encounter.

That miserable total would have been even more embarrassing but for a patient 26 by Chris Bingham.

Les Fearn (32 not out) and skipper Martin Lambert (20no) knocked off the runs for Wheldrake in just 14 overs.

Stamford Bridge made an excellent start to the season in division four with an 81-run win against newcomers Tadcaster Magnet.

Bridge’s 181-7 featured 68 from Des Healey in a second-wicket stand of 84 with Neil Porteous. Callum Burge took 4-29 for Bridge as Tadcaster’s young side were bowled out for 100.

The games featuring Malton & Old Malton II, Westow and Thixendale were rained off.
