A LEVEL par closing round of 72 at the Maybank Malaysian Open put the seal on a steady return to European Tour action for North Yorkshire golfer Simon Dyson.

The 36-year-old, returning from a back injury, went into the final day on one over par for the tournament after scores of 73, 71 and 73 in the opening three rounds.

Starting from the tenth, he slipped down the leaderboard on the back of three bogeys in the opening five holes, but he roared back with four birdies and only one dropped shot in his closing six holes.

On Saturday, a double-bogey six at the 16th proved costly in round three.

Again starting at the tenth, he bogeyed the 11th and 15th either side of a birdie at the 12th before carding that six.

Dyson pulled it round on the front nine, picking up shots at the third, fifth and eighth, while only dropping one shot, on the par three fourth.

The tournament was won by former world number one Lee Westwood, who finished seven shots clear of the field on 18 under par.
