RYEDALE Sports Club's attempt to beat the drop inScarborough & District League division one was heavily dented on Saturday as they lost 4-1 to second-placed Edgehill.

Danny Collins and former Pickering Town striker Ricky Greening put Edgehill two up before Ryedale’s Chris Rhodes had a penalty saved by Martin Cappleman.

Shaun Dodson made it 3-0 with a penalty after the break and, although Ryedale’s Joel Richardson pulled a goal back, Alec Coulson's superb goal sealed the result.

Basement side Ayton lost 3-2 at home to West Pier. They took a second-half lead through Mikey Pickering but Daz Crawford and Jamie Bradshaw turned things around.

A second goal by the impressive Pickering levelled matters but Pier won it through Paul Provins.

A weakened Filey Town were thumped 5-1 at Whitby Fishermen.

In division two, Edgehill reserves beat Sleights 5-0 with goals by John-Paul Watson, Tom Scales, David Bell, Andy Noon and Martyn Ferrey.

Flixton beat Filey Town reserves 2-1, and Cayton Corinthians lost 2-1 at Scalby for whom Richard Simpson and Shaun Scales netted.

Rosette were well beaten 7-2 at Newlands Park reserves, whose marksmen were Luke Delve (3), Sam Chambers (2), Adam Stride and Stuart Bates.

In the third division, Tyson Stubbings scored the only goal of the first half for Ayton reserves but Commercial scored twice after the break for a 2-1 win.
