MALTON & Norton RUFC were relegated from North One East after a crushing 70-33 home defeat by Driffield.

The Ryedale side rekindled their hopes of escaping the drop with a stunning win at Rochdale the previous week, but they sank to the bottom of the table after a humiliating Gannock reverse.

Driffield scored three tries in the opening 15 minutes en route to a 32-7 half-time lead, with Malt’s try coming from skipper Sam Triffitt, with Ian Cooke converting.

Malton made a desperate effort to get back into the game with tries by hooker Nick Salisbury and flanker Tom Caygill plus a Cooke conversion.

However, Driffield added two further tries before wing Ben Woodhouse charged over and Cooke goaled.

A succession of Driffield tries was briefly interrupted by a Cooke consolation score in the closing minutes.

Pocklington lost 24-8 at home to Huddersfield YMCA, but they looked odds on to take the result in the closing stages.

With ten minutes to go Pock trailed only 12-8 and were battering the Huddersfield line with the visitors down to 14 men after a yellow card.

Pocklington missed a penalty but continued to pile on the pressure, only for Huddersfield to score two late interception tries.

YMCA had opened he scoring with an overlap try, but Pock hit back before the break when winger Tim Nixon latched onto a Charlie Allen chip for a try.

Huddersfield edged ahead again with a converted try before Billy Hardy closed the gap with a penalty.

York were beaten 36-14 at Scarborough in Yorkshire One, with Willem Enslin crossing twice for the visitors, with John Dawes kicking two conversions.

Selby went down 26-6 at Dinnington. The Swans only had two Josh Cruise penalties to show for their efforts despite dominating territory and possession for the first hour.

York RI hit back from 12-7 down at half-time to beat Mosborough 22-15 in Yorkshire Four at New Lane.

After a converted try for the visitors, RI drew level with a spectacular Tom Greaves try converted by Baptiste Briu.

An unconverted try put Mosborough in front at 12-7, but Briu kicked a penalty and then Frazer Land made a superb break to feed man of the match Danny Spencer for a try in the corner.

Tim Lewis also crossed and Briu added the extras and Mosborough kicked a penalty at the death.
