RYEDALE Sports Club earned a valuable point in their battle to beat relegation from the first division of the Scarborough & District League thanks to a goalless draw with current champions West Pier.

Ryedale stay second bottom but are now only three points off Whitby Fishermen, fourth from bottom.

The Fisherman lost 5-0 to Edgehill, for whom former Pickering Town favourite Ricky Greening hit a hat-trick, with Aaron Jenking and Gary Hepples also on target.

Edgehill rose to second after their victory, while West Pier moved up into third position thanks to their point.

Westover Wasps won 9-1 at Falsgrave with Curtis Rose, Luke Jones, Liam Buglass and Shaun Billom all hitting doubles. Ryan Matson was their other marksman, with Nick Ellis getting Falsgrave's consolation.

In the second division, Tommy Day gave Snainton the lead at Scalby but the home side hit back to win 4-1 thanks to goals by Ashley Townley (2), Karl Hansell and Shaun Scales.

Cayton Corinthians won the basement battle against Rillington Athletic 3-2.

The Cayton goals were scored by Jake McAleese and Paul Amoah (2).

Sleights look a good bet for promotion despite suffering their third league defeat of the season, 7-4 at home to Newlands Park reserves.

Franny Lightfoot and Stu Bates scored hat-tricks for Newlands whose other goal was an own goal. The Sleights goals were scored by James Fawcett, with two penalties, Sam Wiggins and Joe Leadley.

Whitby RUFC are now the clear leaders in the third division after they thrashed lowly Seamer Sports reserves 9-0. Marc Usher (4), Damon Craig (2), Paul Jobling (2) and Mikey Kilpatrick did the damage.

Cayton Corinthians reserves beat Ayton reserves 2-0 with a goal in each half by Craig Garton and Josh Venner.
