HOLDERS Derwent Arms ‘B’ completed a Malton & Norton League double as they edged Union ‘A’ 4-3 to retain the Team Knockout trophy and add it to the division ‘A’ crown.

Andy Clarkson won the opener for Arms but Wayne Taylor and Shane Wood put Union 2-1 up. Phil Arnold levelled but again Union went ahead courtesy of Paul Westoby.

However, the pairs went Arms’ way, with Clarkson and Guy Stevens taking the first in a nervy black ball frame.

The decider was tight and tactical but was won with a fearless double by Steve Pettit on his final colour to leave him in prime position for the black.

In the rearranged Ladies Pairs final, Claire Jackson and Dilys Wright overcame the disappointment of the last couple of seasons to be crowned winners with a 2-0 victory over defending champions Kirsty Taylor and Sue Allen.

The remaining competition finals will take place this Monday (April 7) at Bright Steels Social Club from 7.30pm with the end-of-season presentation taking place on Friday, April 11, again at Bright Steels.

Meanwhile, North Yorkshire’s men’s ‘A’ team, under new captain Si Newby, were edged out 24-20 at East Yorkshire in the new county pool league. The standout performers were Graham Worcester, who played four frames and won four, Matt Rowland and Gray Carver, who both won three.

The men’s ‘B’ team enjoyed a fantastic 23-21 win for long-standing captain John Patrick. The match was nip and tuck, with North Yorkshire’s top man being Lee Peasgood with four from four.

North Yorkshire’s ladies’ team demolished East Yorkshire 28-16 with plenty of frames to spare. Debutant Vicky Edwardson and Jo Baker both won all four of their frames.
