MALTON’S Yorkshire League team ended their season on a high by taking maximum points from their final game of the season.

Malton beat Dunnington’s second team 20-2 after wins from Jamie Hopwood, Simon Middleton, Mike Catling, Joe Woodhead and Andy Phillips.

The team will end the season in third place in division one - a very creditable performance in their first year in this tier.

In the York & District League, Malton II beat York IV 14-8 at home, with wins from Joel Preston, Andy Rising and Phil Wilford.

The team are sixth in division 3 with two matches to play.

Malton III had a good 17-8 away win at Dunnington VI, which saw wins for Duncan Chapman, Neil Burnett and Mark Baker.

Ian Kneeshaw and Andy Criddle both chipped in with extra points for the team, who are fifth in division four with two matches left.

Malton Ladies I lost their last game of the season, going down 20-2 at home to Dunnington I. Malt’s points came from Ruth Kneeshaw and Rosey Taylor. The team will end the season one place off the bottom of division one.

The Malton club’s closed championships start this week, with the finals being played on Friday, April 11.
