MALTON Squash Club duo Steve Everitt and Rob Taylor have been enjoying success with Yorkshire Over-55s.

They recently travelled south to face Buckinghamshire, Essex and Devon in the battle for promotion from division one of the inter-counties league.

Taylor played against Essex and Devon, winning both of his games 3-0, but Everitt, returning from injury, was not used.

Yorkshire won all three matches over the weekend to secure a place back in the premier division.

Malton I took maximum York & District League division one points with a 20-1 victory over Dunnington I.

There were wins for Jamie Hopwood, Simon Middleton, Mike Catling, Joe Woodhead and Rob Taylor, leaving the team third with one match to play.

Promotion-chasing Malton IV had division five wins over Wigginton VI and York VII.

Maximum points were secured in the former, with wins for Jon Pitkin, Mark Baker, Steve King, James Criddle and Adam Duffill.

In a tight 15-9 victory over York saw Criddle take the crucial match 9-3 in the fifth game. Other wins came from Kevin Goddard and King, but Pitkin’s 13-match winning streak came to an end.

The team are currently second and are assured of at least third place with one match to play.

Malton Ladies II have ended the Ladies' League division two season in second place behind Pocklington.

Meanwhile, three club members - Gill Pycock, Bob Coursey and Gordon Malan - travelled to Ilkley to play in the Yorkshire U3A racketball championships, where there were categories for beginners, intermediate and elite.

Pycock got to the beginners' final, ending as runner-up.

Newcomers are welcome to try squash or racketball for free at club nights every Saturday from 5pm to 7pm. Phone the club on 01653 693139 for more information.
