BLACK Swan ‘A’ are the new Kirkbymoorside League champions after the closest competition in years.

Swan moved level at the top of the table with Royal Oak thanks to a 6-1 win at Malt Shovel ‘A’ on the last day of the season while Oak were winning only 5-2 at Black Swan ‘B’. The title had to be decided by a play-off on a neutral table, Swan winning 5-2.

Black Swan ‘B’ finished third, with Golden Lion taking the wooden spoon.

Meanwhile, Derwent Arms ‘B’ all but assured their third successive division ‘A’ title in the Malton & Norton League as they beat Malton Cons 7-0 in their penultimate match of term.

With leaders Royal Oak ‘A’ not in action, Arms went top by seven points.

Bright Steels ‘A’s 4-3 win at Union ‘B’ means both are safe from relegation – and sends down Spotted Cow and Hyde Park.

Railway Tavern snatched top spot in division ‘B’ by one point going into the final matches after a 6-1 win over Blue Ball. Blacksmith’s Arms and New Globe ‘B’ are tied in second after both suffered defeats.

In the KenFI Trophy, Royal Oak ‘A’ team-mates Jamie Barstow and Spencer Ward reached the final after last-frame wins over Phil Arnold and Wayne Taylor respectively. All competition finals will be on Monday, April 7, at Bright Steels, from 7.30pm.

Summer league registrations will be taken on Monday, March 31, from 7.30pm to 8pm at Bright Steels. New teams are welcome. For further information email wayne@maltonpool.co.uk or phone 07879 684285.
