EASINGWOLD golf ace Nick Marchant is hoping it will be third time lucky in his bid to make the EuroPro Tour.

The 25-year-old assistant pro to Alastair Grindlay at the North Yorkshire club goes to qualifying at Slaley Hall in Northumberland at the end of this month desperate to realise his dream.

Marchant, who as a 15-year-old equalled the course record of 70 at Forest of Galtres GC, will takeon the Priestman Course at Slaley knowing a good finish will seal a place in the final stages at Frilford Heath.

The aspiring tour player has been to the Oxford venue twice before, missing the cut on both occasions.

This time he feels he has got the tools to be successful. All he lacks is a sponsor.

Marchant said. “I’ve played the Priestman once. It’s two rounds and those who do well go through to the final stage at Frilford Heath.

“I played well last time at Slaley with difficult conditions on both days and finished in a tie for 13th in 2011.

“The last couple of times I have been at the final stage I have missed the cut. This time I am hoping to make the cut and finish a lot higher up.”

He added: “You are playing full time, looking towards building to the Challenge Tour and, eventually, the European Tour or the PGA Tour.

“I had a busy year last year - I did a lot of practice but didn’t improve in tournaments. I am looking to do that this year.”

With entry for run-of-the-mill events as much as £300, it is a sport that demands a huge financial commitment and Marchant is looking for sponsorship, adding: “My parents have supported me all the way and I appreciate that but the financial aspect is difficult.”
