KIRKBYMOORSIDE moved closer to the York Minster Engineering League division four title with a 3-0 win over Jorvik Blades.

Chris Hodgson bagged a brace of goals and Jeremy Underwood was also on target as the Moorsiders maintained their 100 per cent record with three games to go.

Their closest pursuers, South Milford, also gained three points after beating Selby Town reserves 5-2, but it will take a slip-up of sizeable proportions to stop the Ryedale side at this late stage.

Kirkby, formerly of the Wearside League, joined the York League this season as they regrouped after a tough couple of years. Their plan to rise through the divisions is so far working.

Jon Newton put Old Malton St Mary’s ahead against Wigginton reserves from the penalty spot but the Grasshoppers hit back in the second half to win 2-1 through Dan Welborn and Tom Derbyshire.

In reserve ‘B’, Nik Shaw and Greg Ashcroft scored for Stamford Bridge’s second string in their clash with Malton & Norton reserves, but two superb goals from Zach Hall and a Simon Reeve effort ensured the points went M&N’s way.

Brooklyn reserves went top of reserve ‘C’ with a 6-0 demolition of Tockwith’s second string.

Chris Smales slotted home after good work from Max Fraser, and Callum Smith flicked on to Fraser to lob the ball high into the net from the edge of the area.

Jimmy Baxter got on the scoresheet when he cut in from the right and drilled the ball in.

In the second half, Matthew Bean created mayhem, scoring two, while man-of-the-match Baxter got his second. Brooklyn now stand just one victory away from taking the reserve ‘C’ crown.
