YORK’S Simon Dyson thundered to leadership of the Tshwane Open in South Africa with his best round of the 2014 European Tour.
Dyson carded a flawless seven-under-par 65 at the Copperleaf Golf and Country Estate course.
That put the 36-year-old into a share of the opening day lead alongside South Africa’s Trevor Fisher junior, both players a shot clear of the rest of the field.
The Malton & Norton Golf Club star posted two birdies on the outward nine, collecting shots at the second and fifth holes.
He turned for home with a birdie on the tenth to keep up the momentum.
But it was his run-in to the clubhouse where he tore up the Copperleaf course.
Dyson racked up no fewer than four birdies in the final four holes for a scintillating 65 to put him in a healthy position to try to claim his seventh European Tour title.
