ROYAL Oak ‘A’ took advantage of a free week for division ‘A’ leaders Derwent Arms ‘B’ with a 6-1 win at home to Hyde Park in the Malton & Norton League.
The win moved Royal Oak ‘A’ to within one point of the top, although they have played a game more.
Union ‘A’ missed the chance to put pressure on the runners-up spot as they lost the final frame in 4-3 loss to Malton Cons. They join Union on 77 points in third.
Bright Steels ‘B’ claimed bragging rights over their ‘A’ team as they won 4-3. The match between Union ‘B’ and Spotted Cow was postponed.
In division ‘B’, New Globe ‘B’ capitalised on Blacksmith’s Arms’ free week to join them at the top on 65 points as they beat Blue Ball 5-2.
Gate Inn are third after a 4-3 win against fourth-placed George Hotel.
Three of the four semi-final places in the men’s pairs competition have been decided.
Defending champions Jamie Barstow and Darren Craggs booked their place in the next round, where they will be joined by Mark Johnson and Phil Thompson, and Richard Flynn and Steve Jones.
