CONEYSTHORPE ‘A’ stayed hot on the heels of leaders Ryedale ‘A’ in the Ryedale Table Tennis League.

Ryedale ‘A’ beat their ‘C’ team 8-2 in their penultimate match of the season, but Coneysthorpe defeated Ryedale ‘B’ 9-1.

Coneysthorpe are only 10 points behind the front-runners with two games in hand, making them favourites to win the title.

Whitby moved a step closer to safety with a 6-4 win over Swinton ‘B’.

In division two, Coneysthorpe ‘B’, the only leading club to play, could only take three of the six points available in a draw with bottom side Helmsley ‘B’.

Andrew Turner starred for Helmsley with three single wins and victory in the doubles with James Ellis.

Helmsley ‘B’ beat fellow strugglers Amotherby ‘D’ 6-4 to give them a fighting chance of staying up.

Ryedale ‘H’ require only one point from their remaining three games to take the division three title having gained maximum points in two games last week against FERA and Hutton-le- Hole ‘C’, both matches ending 10-0.

Westow and Amotherby ‘E’ played out a hard-fought draw with six of nine singles matches going to five sets.

Nick Knight remained unbeaten for Amotherby to continue his consistent form this season.
