LONG-TIME league leader Garry Milne made no mistakes in the final round of the Tri-Star AC winter series at Rosedale fishery, winning with 24lb 4oz.

Drawn at peg 43, he took five carp to the 6lb mark on the method feeder before switching to the 13-metre pole with maggot to top up with silver fish. Paul Cresswell was best of the rest with 12lb 2oz from peg three.

A brace of 12lb carp put Ralph Pressdee firmly in the driving seat in last Wednesday’s York midweek match at Raker Lakes. Sitting at peg six on the Acorn Lake and fishing out towards the island with the 16-metre pole with sweetcorn for bait, he also tempted several smaller carp to end with 47lb 10oz.

Former fishery proprietor Brian Pallister had to settle for second place with 40lb 8oz from peg 19.

He did go one better on Sunday, top-scoring in the Black Horses match on the High Bank with 41lb 4oz.

Drawn on the out-and-out flier peg 15, he chose to fish the tried and tested bomb and sweetcorn to take an all-carp catch that included specimens up to the 5lb mark.

Paul Neil, at peg four, secured runners-up place with 18lb 6oz.

A trio of Norton anglers occupied the podium places in last Tuesday’s Westland’s AC match on the Dog Bone Lake.

Phil Roberts led from peg 26 with 31lb 4oz of F1 carp up to the 1lb mark, taken off either the seven or 12-metre pole lines with pellet for bait.

Doug Featherstone was second with 27lb 4oz and Terry Tierney third with 23lb 12oz.

Weights were respectable in Scarborough Mere AC’s Sunday match, despite a gale force wind.

Arty Wilson finished top with 16lb 2oz. Andy Ward was second off peg six with 10lb 11oz.
