A HORSE ridden by a jockey with a broken leg in a race at Newcastle in November reappears at Catterick today and boasts a leading chance.

Serenity Now, trained by Brian Ellison, runs in the We Race Again On March 5th National Hunt Flat Race. It will be the gelding’s third appearance of the campaign.

In the first of them, Serenity Now finished a respectable second at Sedgefield, but it was hardly a surprise that he could finish no better than sixth at Newcastle next time as it transpired that jockey Danny Cook had ridden him with a broken leg after being kicked by another runner at the start.

Cook’s season remains very much on hold and he is not expected to resume riding for another month or even two.

As for Serenity Now, he has shown enough ability to suggest he can win a bumper and, provided none of the newcomers in this race are above average, he should go well for Nathan Moscrop.

Venetia Williams is enjoying a vintage campaign and the Herefordshire trainer has every chance of bagging the featured £10,000 Easby Abbey Handicap Chase with Lucky Sunny, the mount of her stable jockey Aidan Coleman.

He was only caught late on at Ludlow on his latest start. He is napped to go one better this time.

Donald McCain looks set for a productive afternoon.

He looks to have found a good opportunity for Benzanno in the Yorkshire-outdoors.co.uk Adventure Activities Maiden Hurdle.

The gelding, unplaced lately in a jumpers’ bumper, had previously finished third on his hurdling debut here to Yorkist, who has won twice again since.

McCain can also win the Watch On 3 Devices racinguk.com/anywhere Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle with Cloudante, who is seeking her third success of the campaign, while in the opening Cheltenham Preview Evening 28th February Novices’ Chase, the Cheshire trainer is responsible for two of the three runners.

McCain’s Beeves and Bit Of A Jig are taken on by Jonjo O’Neill’s Dursey Sound. All three horses have question marks, but any one of them could win. Marginal preference is for Beeves, the highest-rated of the trio.

On the Flat at Lingfield, Keep Kicking bids to extend his course record in the 32Red Free £10 Bonus Handicap.

The seven-year-old has won on two of his three visits to this course since the turn of the year. Simon Dow’s charge may be able to oblige once more before the handicapper collars him. Jim Crowley rides.

Chunghua bids for compensation for his latest costly defeat in the 32Red Thunderstruck ll Slot Maiden Stakes.

Trained by Ed Walker, the three-year-old finished second at Wolverhampton on his debut and, on the strength of that, was sent off the red-hot 1-4 favourite to go one better here three weeks ago. Alas, Rose Buck appeared to get first run on him and Chunghua, despite closing down the deficit near the finish, was still three-quarters of a length shy of the winner at the line. He can make amends this time.

Littlecote Lady (3.30), who ran so well at Kempton on her seasonal debut, and recent course winner Shannon Haven (5.00) are two others to consider.
