POCKLINGTON tyre chief Reg Bond will spend £125,000 to secure a dream date with wonder horse Frankel for his star mare Forever Bond.

The 14-year-old daughter of Danetime is set to be covered by the unbeaten 2,000 Guineas, Juddmonte International and Champion Stakes winner next week.

Bond, who runs tyre wholesaler Bond International, declared he was hugely excited about the prospect of his brood mare’s liaison with Frankel, who was said to be worth more than £100 million when he dominated on the track between 2010 and 2012.

“We asked for a nomination for his first year but didn’t get one,” he said. “He was fully booked.

“I met Lord Grimthorpe, York Racecourse chairman and racing manager to Frankel’s owner Prince Khalid Abdullah, at York and just mentioned that I would like to send her to Frankel.

“It has cost £125,000 but we are playing the game now. Our mare has proven everything and the foal that results could be worth £250,000.”

Forever Bond was bought for Bond by Hambleton trainer Bryan Smart for a mere 15,500 guineas at Doncaster sales 13 years ago.

She did not make it on to the racecourse but her foals have turned out to be very successful.

Forever Bond’s first five offspring were all winners on the track.

She is the dam of York Group winner Ladies Are Forever, trained at Brawby by Geoff Oldroyd and still owned by Bond, and the Group 1 placed Hoof It, who is handled at Sheriff Hutton by Mick Easterby and is owned by European tour golf ace Lee Westwood and his manager Chubby Chandler.

Bond, who has his own stud at Yapham Mill, said he had not yet decided whether to keep the product of Forever Bond and Frankel’s union for himself and race the youngster.

His mare has only this week foaled to Bond’s stallion Monsieur Bond for the sixth time.

He added: “It depends how it works out. It’s a great feeling.

“I think she will go to Frankel next week. The aim is to catch her in foal heat.”

Bond will also be a very interested spectator at Lingfield this weekend as Ladies Are Forever and Hoof It, both bred at Bond Thoroughbred Corporation, go head-to-head in the £45,000 Listed Cleves Stakes.

“We are sending Ladies Are Forever down to Lingfield and she is in the same race as Hoof It,” said a proud Bond.

“I would never have believed I would produce two horses from stud that could run in top Listed company.”

Good for you Reg. How about Frank Bond for a colt, or Frances Bond for a filly.
