PICKERING Town favourite Steve Baxter has left the club.

The long-time servant, who has not played for the Recreation Ground outfit since former manager Jimmy Reid was sacked last November, has joined his old boss at Selby Town.

Baxter initially moved on to Tadcaster Albion on January 30 but has now transferred to Flaxley Road.

He has been joined at the Northern Counties East League division one outfit by another of Reid’s former lieutenants, Dean MacAuley. As was the case at Mill Lane, MacAuley is part of Reid’s management team.

Pickering’s NCEL premier division derby with Bridlington Town – a match that would have seen Pikes boss Mitch Cook go up against his former club – was postponed last Saturday after a 10am pitch inspection.

Assistant referee George Marr deemed the pitch to be waterlogged. The playing surface had been spiked on Friday morning but the amount of rain that fell over the following 24 hours gave the officials no choice.

The game has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 11 (7.45pm).

It was the second successive Pickering game to fall foul of the weather with their League Cup third round game at home to Dronfield Town, due to have been staged last Tuesday, also a victim of a waterlogged pitch.

That game has been rearranged for February 25 (kick off 7.45pm).

Saturday sees Pickering entertain Glasshoughton Welfare (kick off 3pm). The Pikes won the reverse fixture 2-1 in October.
