NEWLANDS Park now have an 18-point lead at the top of the Scarborough & District League first division.

Park beat fourth-placed Filey Town on Saturday and, although the next three teams have games in hand, it would seem the title is now theirs to lose.

The only goal of the first half was an own goal by Jason Harrison, with Liam Sugden and Ricky Tomlinson missing great chances to equalise either side of half-time.

Drew McCoubrey then doubled the Newlands lead, with Sean Exley scoring their third goal to seal their 15th successive league win.

Park and Filey meet twice more next month in the Scarborough & District FA’s District Cup and Harbour Cup semi-finals.

All other first division games were postponed.

In the League Trophy quarter-finals, Newlands Park reserves beat Edgehill reserves 2-0.

Edgehill are undefeated in the second division but fell to second-half goals by Sam Chambers and Dan Freer.

In the League Trophy, second division side Snainton lost 2-0 at home to third division Athletico 2B, whose second-half goals were scored by Shaun Goodwin and Chris Costigan.

Ayton reserves lost 3-2 at home to Whitby RUFC. Ben Hogarth, Sam Richardson and Marc Usher were first-half marksmen for Whitby.

Ayton almost forced extra time, as Kieran Friett and Tyson Stubbings scored in the second half, with Stubbings being denied an equaliser by a save of the season contender from Sam Gale.

In the second division, Sleights closed the gap to leaders Edgehill reserves to 11 points with two games in hand after they beat Flixton 5-1.

Ryan Roe, Andy Hardy, James Fawcett, Ben Watson and Michael Trotter got their goals, Luke Chambers replying for Flixton.

United Sports Bar remain fourth after a 2-1 home win against Scalby courtesy of substitute Jack Walker’s late winner.

Liam Vasey had fired them ahead with a first-half penalty, Ashley Townley equalising in the second half.

Third division leaders West Pier reserves beat Cayton Corinthians reserves 2-0 with a goal in each half from Will Garnett and Rob Speight.

Westover Wasps reserves won 3-1 at Falsgrave reserves thanks to goals by Jordan Shaw, Will Smith and Aiden Cooper.
