John Quinn, who had a whole host of entries lined up this week for Forced Family Fun, has opted to send his progressive gelding to Musselburgh today and the hint should be heeded.

A Flat winner when previously trained by Michael Bell at Newmarket, Forced Family Fun has proved a useful recruit to Quinn’s North Yorkshire stable, winning twice over hurdles this season, which includes a handicap win at Doncaster on his latest start.

That half-length success over Mojolika was achieved against more experienced rivals and Forced Family Fun acquitted himself in professional style to come out on top. The handicapper has raised him 8lb for that success in advance of the £10,000 Water Tight Green Compliance Handicap Hurdle. He should go well with Brian Hughes again in the saddle.

Willie Amos has his horses back in good form after a spell in the doldrums and the Scottish trainer has double prospects with Brieryhill Boy and Willie Hall.

The latter was a workmanlike winner at Sedgefield last month and has every chance of following-up in the Download The Free Racing App Handicap Hurdle.

Brieryhill Boy has yet to win this season, but he has run good races at Sedgefield on his last two outings and may have been slightly unlucky not to beat King’s Grace on his latest start having blundered at the final flight when holding the advantage. He is fancied to gain compensation.

Norton trainer Malcolm Jefferson has a potentially smart horse on his hands in Coozan George, who won on this course six weeks ago on his second outing.

There was plenty to like about that success and Coozan George, a slow-learning individual, remains open to plenty of improvement. He can make a bold attempt to defy a penalty.

Fennell Bay (2.10), an eight-times Flat winner, who scored by a wide margin on his hurdling bow at Fakenham, is selected to follow up for John Ferguson and Denis O’Regan, while smart hunter chaser Habbie Simpson (4.25) can make it two from two this season in the hands of Tom Hamilton.

On the Flat at Lingfield, Treasure Cay gets the vote in the 32Red New Avalon Maiden Stakes.

Paul Cole’s three-year-old finished second on this course in December. His latest outing was in France where he finished fourth at Deauville. Unless any of the newcomers is above average, Treasure Cay should take plenty of beating. Tom Queally rides.

Jack Garritty, son of former top North Yorkshire jump jockey Russ Garritty, is proving a chip off the old block and the teenager is set for a good ride from Timothy T in the Ladbrokes Apprentice Handicap.

Philip Hide’s charge finished second here last month and may not have to improve much on that effort to go one better.

Exclusive Waters (2.00), narrowly beaten at Kempton last time when sent off favourite, can gain compensation in the selling race, while Whitby Jet (4.15) is another with strong claims after his recent course win which has prompted only a 4lb rise in his rating.
