FORMER Yorkshire duo Simon Guy and John Sadler have joined the backroom team at Derbyshire.
Sadler, Guy, Cookie Patel and Ant Botha have been added to the coaching staff, joining existing coaches Stephen Stubbings and A J Harris at the County Ground.
Elite cricket performance director Graeme Welch said the additions signalled the club’s “long-term ambition”.
Welch will lead on seam bowling and will be supported by Harris, who will also focus on academy development, while Sadler – who has established his own coaching academy based in Yorkshire – takes up the role of batting coach and he will be supported by Stubbings.
Former Derbyshire captain Botha has returned from his coaching position in Australia to work with the club’s spin bowling group and will assist in coaching batsmen, while ECB women’s fielding coach Patel joins as a specialist fielding coach and Guy as specialist wicketkeeping coach.
Dewsbury-born Sadler, 32, left Yorkshire without playing a first-class game and went on to figure for Leicestershire and Derbyshire.
Rotherham-based Guy, 35, made his Tykes debut in 2000, but failed to hold down a regular place as wicketkeeper. He played Minor Counties cricket for Suffolk last year.
