RYEDALE Sports Club made it two successive Scarborough & District League division one wins in 2014 when they edged hosts Falsgrave 4-3.

The six points gained – compared to the five garnered from their previous 12 games – move them away from the foot of the table.

Sam Burns, who normally plays for newitts.com Beckett League team Rosedale, set up Adam Hornby to open the scoring for Ryedale, before netting himself with an unstoppable 20-yard shot.

In the second half, man-of-the-match Sam Turnbull put Ryedale further ahead before Falsgrave came back with a goal on the hour mark and a penalty 10 minutes from time by Mike Anderson.

Burns’ second goal gave Ryedale a 4-2 lead before Cameron Malcolm narrowed the gap again.

Newlands Park are still the clear leaders after a 4-0 home win against Ayton – Billy Logan (2), Sean Exley and Jack Hakings the marksmen.

Edgehill are second after a 5-2 win against Hunmanby United.

Edgehill scored four goals in the 15 minutes before half-time through Danny Collins, Ricky Greening (2) and Kieran Link.

Hunmanby came back with a double from Cameron Dobson before Danny White scored Edgehill’s late fifth.

Shaun Dodson and Gary Hepples were Edgehill’s men of the match, Dave Tonks shining for Hunmanby United.

West Pier are third after a 5-2 home win against Whitby Fishermen who played 75 minutes with 10 men after having a player sent off.

Neil Hart and Connor Goldsmith put the Fishermen two up after 55 minutes, but Pier came back strongly against tiring opponents with five goals in the last 25 minutes through Paul Provins (2), Danny Cooper, Sam Garnett and Gary Thomas.

Westover Wasps won 5-1 at Seamer Sports thanks to goals by Aidan McCallion, Luke Jones, Kurtis Rose, Ryan Matson and Sam O’Flanagan, Gary Lawton replying.

In division two, Rillington Athletic crashed 8-2 at Newlands Park reserves whose goals were scored by Luke Delve (4), Stuart Bates( 3) and Adam Stride. Mark Dring and Shaun Ward, with a penalty, scored for Rillington. Ward also hit another penalty wide.

Snainton maintained their impressive form with a 5-3 home win against Rosette thanks to goals by Shane Holt (2), Karl Cooper, Liam Mintoft and Sam Wallace.

Lee Wardle, Wayne Shaw and Tom Blackburn responded for Rosette.

Edgehill reserves stayed top after a 5-1 win at Filey Town reserves with goals by John-Paul Watson (2), Martyn Ferrey, Tony Pickles and Stephen Whitaker. Billy Coyne scored for Filey.

Eastfield St James knocked the holders Filey Town out of the League Cup, winning 3-1.

It was Eastfield’s third successive victory under new manager Lee Tate, the son of former Pickering Town boss Nigel Tate. Kris Tate, the former Scarborough forward, scored a fine double, with Nick Hegarty also netting. Ricky Tomlinson replied.
