SUPER-SUB Taryn Midgely fired Thornton-le-Dale into the last four of the Ryedale Hospital Cup at the expense of Slingsby.

Midgely was named man of the match when his second-half brace saw Thornton defeat Slingsby 3-2 to take their place in the semi-final draw of the newitts.Com Beckett League competition, alongside Union Rovers, Ryedale SC reserves and Kirkbymoorside reserves.

Earlier, David Elliot had opened the scoring for Thornton on eight minutes after a good move involving Tim Hunt and Rory Lancaster.

But Scott Simpson then equalised 10 minutes later and it was Slingsby who led at the break after Jack Hopwood’s raid down the left wing forced an own goal.

The second half belonged to Midgely, however, whose second goal settled the tie five minutes from time.

Slingsby’s star performers were Danny Nunwick and Glyn Brown.

In the Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy, man-of-the-match Jordan Rivis struck twice to earn Kirkbymoorside reserves a 2-0 triumph against Wombleton Wanderers, for whom Paul Grayson starred.

It was the second time in two weeks that Kirkby, division one title-chasers, had beaten second division leaders Wombleton, having knocked them out of the Ryedale Hospital Cup last week. Wombleton are unbeaten in the league.

Union Rovers were 4-0 winners at Heslerton thanks to Dan Simpson (2), Ben Webster and Grant Stephens.

Strikers Simpson and Webster shared the man-of-the-match honours, while centre-back Ross Flinton shone for Heslerton.

In division one, four-goal, man-of-the-match Martin Kendall inspired Bagby & Balk to a 4-1 win against Gillamoor, who replied through skipper Andrew Claughton and had midfielder Patrick Bernstein in good form.

Sinnington stormed to a 7-2 success against Duncombe Park with Lee Mitchell (2), Luke Clemmit (2), Rob Atkinson, David Wilkinson and Toby Edwards the marksmen and Paul Harland turning in a man-of-the-match performance. Ed Fawcett and Cory Taylor – who was the pick of Park’s performers – replied for Duncombe.

In division two, Kirkdale overcame Union Rovers seconds 3-2 with Jonathan Wheeldon, Michael Bumby and Alex Croall on the scoresheet.

Ashley Cooke and Richard Abbey netted for Union.

The man-of-the-match accolade went to Edward Bell with midfielder Luke Dawson impressing most for Rovers.

Danny Lewis (2) and man-of-the-match Harry Thistleton were on target in Settrington’s 3-1 defeat of Norton United, whose top performer Danny Hamilton claimed a consolation effort.

Man-of-the-match Lee Oxendale and Mark Cass secured a 2-0 victory for Rillington Athletic reserves against Easingwold Town thirds.

Full-back Lee Brimicombe was Easingwold’s star man.

Thornton-le-Dale midfielder Damien Newman and Snainton full-back Billy Sullivan caught the eye most in a goal-less draw between their sides.

Steve Carter scored twice – the second a 25-yard volley – as Pickering Knights saw off Heslerton reserves 4-3 with James Jeavons and Greg Fawcett also notching.

Heslerton responded through the impressive Mikey Clark, Lee Timms and Liam Bradley.

Matty Gardner and John Ellis double-strikes saw Ryedale SC reserves beat friendly opponents Rosedale 4-0.

The man of the match was Martin Foulger with midfielder Lyle King standing out for Rosedale.

• THE outstanding Scarborough & District FA District Cup quarter-final will hopefully be played on Saturday between Sinnington, the champions of the Beckett League, and Newlands Park, this season's runaway leaders in the Scarborough & District League first division.

The tie, at Sinnington, will kick off at 1.45pm. If the 90 minutes ends all square, it will go straight to a penalty shoot-out.
