Norton Badminton Club’s mixed team have made a fine start to their first season in Scarborough & District League mixed division one.

Captained by Andrew Cooke, many of the team had not played at this level before but they sit third in the table at the halfway stage of the season.

The format involves men’s and ladies’ doubles followed by mixed doubles.

Early defeats for Norton against Whitby and Snainton were followed by wins over Scalby, Derwent and Whitby.

Cooke said: “The matches have been very competitive with all of the team contributing towards the points gained.

“A special word must go to the ladies – Megan Butcher, Jessica Cooke, Eleanor Mawson, Wendy Mawson and Heather Farrow – for their continued improvement.”

Norton field three other men’s teams in the Level Doubles League, while club nights are held at Norton School on Mondays.
