RYEDALE Sports Club were unable to pull off a shock in the Scarborough & District FA District Cup quarter-finals as they fell 4-0 to Filey Town.

Lee Cappleman opened the scoring 10 minutes before half-time, and second-half goals followed from James Pinder (2) and Macie Kapysnki while Gary Wardell missed a penalty.

The nearest Ryedale came to scoring was when Heath Brown, their man of the match, hit a post with an excellent header.

Ayton were comfortable 3-0 winners at Falsgrave reserves thanks to goals by Mark Vasey, Danny Stevens and Josh Cooper. Falsgrave had Zack Anderson cautioned.

Eastfield St James beat 10-man West Pier 4-1.

Gary Thomas put Pier ahead after good work by Sam Garnett, but Danny Price equalised before half-time and Eastfield won the game thanks to a second-half hat-trick by man-of-the-match Danny Kelly – his first-ever treble.

Pier had Neil Thomas sent off by referee Ben Naylor and Scott Wardman and Paul Provins were also cautioned.

The outstanding second round tie saw the Scarborough & District League first division leaders Newlands Park beat Edgehill 5-2.

Edgehill took the lead through Liam Cooper scored but Sean Exley equalised for Park who then took a two-goal interval lead courtesy of Billy Logan and Drew McCoubrey.

Early in the second half McCoubrey added a second goal and, although Aaron Jenking pulled a goal back for Edgehill, McCoubrey’s hat-trick strike sealed victory.

Left-back Hugh Brown was the star man for Newlands, who also had impressive displays from McCoubrey and Kile Fields.

In the quarter-finals they will visit Beckett League champions Sinnington, on Saturday, January 18, for the right to join Ayton, Eastfield and Filey in the last four.
