SCARBOROUGH Athletic’s superb run was finally ended on Saturday as visitors Loughborough Dynamo pulled off a surprise 3-1 victory – aided by a penalty miss.

Gary Charlton put Boro ahead from the spot on 15 minutes as they sought a ninth straight win, Tom Davie having been fouled, but otherwise their attacking force was off the boil as the Seadogs’ form took a slump against an organised outfit.

Nathan Watson struck back before half-time with a deflected effort and, after the interval, Luke Smithson and Kris Nurse scored the goals – both after swift counter attacks aided by naïve defending – that took the points back to Leicestershire.

In between the second-half strikes, Pete Davidson was fouled at the other end when about to pull the trigger from a rebound having been denied at point-blank range by Kahile Mann-Kler.

But Bradshaw scuffed his second spot-kick straight at the goalkeeper.

Late on, Ryan Blott was denied by the ’keeper, while sub Bryan Hughes bent a free-kick just wide and somehow failed to convert Bradshaw’s knockdown from five yards.

Bradshaw also volleyed wide and when Boro finally forced the ball home when Mann-Kler spilled a corner into the net, the referee ruled the goal out for a push.

Boro, who sat eighth after the weekend, are on their travels during Christmas week. They go to Goole on Boxing Day and second-placed Leek – who have won nine of their 11 home matches – on Saturday.
