Kirkdale United moved level on points at the top of the newitts.com Beckett League second division after a superb 2-1 win at Easingwold Town 3rds.

Easingwold took the lead after seven minutes through Tom Horner, but Josh Berry equalised five minutes before half-time and Michael Bumby scored the winner for Kirkdale after 70 minutes.

Jed Taylor-Brown at left-back was Kirkdale’s man of the match, with goalkeeper Darren O’Grady also in impressive form.

Leaders Wombleton Wanderers saw their game against Thornton-le-Dale reserves postponed because the visitors could not raise a team.

Union Rovers 2nds moved into third after a 6-3 home win against Pickering Knights.

Union cruised three up thanks to a brace by Richard Abbey and a Ryan Cooper effort.

Graham Atkinson pulled a goal back with an unstoppable 17-yard shot but Shane Olley restored Union’s three-goal advantage.

The second half was much closer with both sides scoring twice.

Abbey completed a hat-trick for Union and team-mate Courtney Hodgson also scored, while on target for the Knights were Atkinson and an own goal by Grant Stephens.

The men of the match were Chris Hodgson in centre midfield for Rovers, and striker Graham Atkinson for Pickering.

Heslerton reserves rose to fifth after a deserved 3-1 home win over Slingsby in a game of two halves. Slingsby had the better of the first half with a wind advantage, Scott Simpson putting them ahead, while Mick Norman, the Heslerton goalkeeper, made two very good saves.

The game changed after half-time as Heslerton now had the wind behind them. Liam Bradley equalised after 55 minutes, and Peter Tiffney scored after 75 and 80 minutes to secure the points.

Midfielder Liam Bradley, for Heslerton, and centre-back Glyn Brown and left-back Joe Brown, for Slingsby, stood out.

An improving Settrington won 3-1 at Snainton reserves.

Andy Rouph put the visitors ahead, and Lewis Williamson double the lead after the break.

Tom Haldenby pulled a goal back for Snainton but a late Chris Lightfoot strike sealed the victory and lifted Setty up into sixth.

Snainton’s Dave Pearson and Setty midfielder Rouph starred.

Norton United finally collected their first point of the season when they drew 1-1 at home to Rillington Athletic reserves.

Mick Johnson put Rillington ahead by half-time, but Nathan Kirby scored a superb equaliser after 55 minutes.

Both sides were happy with a point at the end of a well-contested game in which Norton’s Danny Hamilton and Rillington’s Simon Leckenby were declared the men of the match.

There are no fixtures this Saturday in the Beckett League.
