LAYBOURNE Lakes at Hessay near York will be closed to match bookings on the first weekend of every month in 2014.

York & District Amalgamation of Anglers officials have made the move in order to cater for pleasure anglers who are unable to fish Monday to Friday due to work commitments.

The lake will be open to pleasure anglers only on the following dates: January 4 and 5, February 1 and 2, March 1 and 2, April 5 and 6, May 3 and 4, May 31 and June 1, July 5 and 6, August 2 and 3, September 6 and 7, October 4 and 5, November 1 and 2, and December 6 and 7.

The Monday only closure of Marley Pool will remain in force from May 5 to September 29.

It will be open again on October 6.

The amalgamation has again urged local club secretaries to submit Environment Agency match return cards.

If 80 to 95 per cent of all match cards are returned, the amalgamation will receive a payment from the Agency to be used to benefit junior anglers in the area.

Amalgamation trustees have signed a new lease for the Beningbrough Park Fishery, with the agreement running until 2016.
