A MILDER weekend meant fish were more active than of late and some good weights were recorded as a result.

Gerald Chalk had the best of the action in the Black Horses knock-up on the Acorn at Raker Lakes, taking an impressive 63lb.

Casting out from peg 18 with bomb and sweetcorn, he attracted the attention of carp to the 9lb mark.

Gordon Farmery drew peg 13 and fished long pole and sweetcorn up to the bush on the peninsular to land 42lb 10oz and second place.

Carp were also on the move at Rosedale Fishery on Sunday, with Neil Hogg banking 43lb 4oz to secure the honours in round four of the Tri-Star AC winter League.

Fishing out from peg 42 with ground bait feeder and treble dead maggot for bait, he netted specimens to the 5lb mark.

Bill Newsome was a close second off peg 21 with a level 38lb.

The York midweek anglers visited Pool Bridge Farm, Wheldrake, last week. Fishing on the Horseshoe lake, it was Ray Wright who left victorious after weighing in with 30lb 12oz of waggler-and-worm-caught carp from peg 18.

Pete Utley sat close by at peg 17 and led the chasing pack with 18lb 12oz.

Colin McNeil won both Westland’s AC’s Tuesday and Friday fixtures last week. He set the wheels in motion at Risby Park on an out-of-form carp lake, needing only a very modest 9lb for success.

Utilising the 11-metre pole with pellet at peg 35, he netted around 25 of the recently introduced stock carp in the 3oz to 5oz bracket.

Friday saw him sitting at peg seven on Island Lake at Westland’s Fishery and putting 34lb 12oz on the scales.

Like the time before, it was pole and pellet that did the damage, accounting for F1s to the 2lb mark and the odd carp to 4lb apiece.

The top five rods in Monday’s Contemptibles match at Brooklands Lake recorded an aggregate 80lb of silver fish.

Brian Hewitt just hung on for a win at peg eight with 19lb 11oz of waggler-and-maggot-caught roach and rudd, relegating Ken Herbert into second with 19lb 4oz at peg nine.

A win in the final round of Malton & Norton AC’s winter series saw Brian Jordan finish well clear at the top of the league table.

Fishing on the River Derwent at Menethorpe, Jordan landed a bonus 1lb grayling plus numerous small dace to record 2lb 5oz from peg 24.

Beverley’s Paul Jessop crossed the line in second with 1lb 5oz from peg 33.
