A SECOND-HALF blitz brought Scarborough Athletic a 5-0 victory over Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday in Evo-Stik League division one south.

The result – a sixth straight league win which lifted the Seadogs up to 10th in the table – more than made up for the disappointment of the opening day draw in the reverse fixture, in which Boro had three men sent off.

Rudy Funk’s charges were frustrated in the first half and needed a goal-line clearance by Paul Foot to deny visitors striker Matt Haddrell an opening goal, but they went to town in the second, following a second miss by Haddrell.

Both Ryan Blott and Gary Bradshaw notched braces before substitute Chris Bolder completed the scoring.

The Seadogs were hosting lowly Brigg Town last night hoping to avenge defeat in the Doodson Sport League Cup last Tuesday night, a 2-0 loss which has punctured the team’s good run.

Meanwhile, Whitby Town’s decent away form continued on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 win at Ilkeston Town – their first-ever victory at the Derbyshire club at the seventh attempt.

The victory lifted Darren Williams’ men to 12th place in the Evo-Stik premier division.

Graeme Armstrong gave them an early lead and former York City midfielder Lee Bullock doubled the advantage on the hour mark.

On Saturday, Whitby, who have now lost only once in eight games, albeit with five draws thrown in, host basement side Droylsden (3pm).
