Pocklington RUFC slipped to fourth in North One East after a 31-18 defeat at in-form Huddersfield YMCA.

Huddersfield YMCA opened the scoring with an early penalty before Pock wing Sam Asken was on target with a kick to level matters.

Huddersfield went ahead again when they collected a Pocklington kick on halfway and spun the ball wide to score in the opposite corner.

Pock came back through the forwards but lock Tom Peters was adjudged to have been held up over the line.

Another slick counter-attack brought a second home try and Huddersfield moved 15 points clear with the conversion and a penalty.

Pock dragged themselves back into it with a lineout catch and drive try by Jack Holbrough, which full-back Jack Fletcher converted.

Huddersfield broke through some sloppy tackling in midfield for a converted try, and added another penalty.

Pocklington were playing catch up, but flanker Jack Holbrough grubber kicked ahead for his brother, centre Joe Holbrough, to touch down.

Fletcher converted from the touchline.

However, Huddersfield regained the initiative, landing another penalty to seal matters.

Malton & Norton shared ten tries with hosts Driffield but went down 37-32 in North One East.

Flanker Ali Coe crossed in the corner for Malton’s first try and fly-half Charlie Ramsay added a penalty. Driffield responded with a converted try before both sides had a player sin-binned, scrum-half Charlie Birkett going in the bin for Malton.

Malt forged 15-7 in front when Paul Dobson crashed over and Ramsay converted, but Driffield hit back with a try from a failed drop goal attempt.

Tom Newitt crossed in the corner for an unconverted Malton try, but again Driffield proved difficult to shake off as they made it 20-19.

George Elliott crossed just before the break and Ramsay’s conversion made it 27-19.

Driffield pulled to within a point with a converted try and they then went ahead with a penalty.

Coe’s second try saw the lead change hands again but, after Tom Newitt was sin-binned, a penalty pulled the hosts level and they added a try midway through the half.
