MALTON’S Yorkshire League team slipped to seventh in the division one table after losing a tight match to Chapel Allerton II last Wednesday, going down 3-2.

Malton’s winners were Jamie Hopwood and Mike Catling.

There was widespread glee for Malton in the York & District League, however.

There was a strong performance by Malton I to defeat York RI II 20-0. There were wins for Catling, Joe Woodhead, Rob Taylor, Andy Phillips and Joel Preston, and the team are now fifth in division one.

Malton II also gained maximum points in beating York IV 20-4, which lifted them to sixth in division three.

The winning team comprised Preston, Oliver Rising, Steve Towse, Jimmy Mason, and Phil Wilford.

Malton IV won a very tight match against York VII last Thursday.

Mark Baker came from two games down to win 3-2 and snatch victory for Malton in the deciding leg. The team’s other winners were Steve King and Jon Pitkin.

Malton IV are up to second in division five and play leaders Wigginton V tomorrow (Thursday).

Malton Ladies I lost 18-3 to York I and are currently bottom of division one of the York ladies’ league, level on points with Wigginton I. Rosey Taylor was Malt’s only winner.
