MEMBERS at Pike Hills Golf Club were saddened to hear of the death of former professional Greg Love.
The man, who had an association with the club spanning almost three decades, died at the Moorlands Care Home. He was aged 87.
Love was appointed professional at Pike Hills in 1962 arriving from the Ravenspark club in Ayrshire.
His duties as professional were combined with the role of being head greenkeeper, a dual job he held until 1980.
From then until 1989 Love was solely the club’s head greenkeeper.
Said former Pike Hills chairman Mike Newsome: “He was a lovely man. You could never fall out with Greg and he was very much admired by the members.
“It was said in one of the handbooks during his early years that ‘his advice was priceless’ as the club professional.”
Love and his wife Brenda were also keen bowlers, with the former head greenkeeper tending to the York Railway Institute bowling greens.
