Angling: Tony Stockdale takes Geoff Selby Memorial match honours
3:47pm Wednesday 9th October 2013 in Sport
TONY STOCKDALE lifted the Geoff Selby Memorial Cup when Ryedale Junior Angling Club temporarily re-formed to hold a charity match in honour of the late long-serving volunteer.
The match, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, was staged at Pool Bridge Farm, Crockey Hill, York, on a bright sunny day.
Stockdale drew peg four and interchanged fishing pole and method feeder, fishing up in the water to catch the finicky silver fish using maggot as bait, and employing the method feeder to bag a few carp. His end weight of 13lb 8oz landed him first place.
Jamie Shaw, 15, was second with a mixed bag of roach, rudd, ide, perch and skimmers from peg 3. He patiently fished his waggler and fed two lines to keep his quarry lining up to take his maggot hook bait.
Darren Coning had a slow start as his floating bread was not enough to temp the topping carp in his swim.
He eventually changed tactics and began to show promise using waggler and maggot.
He fished near the lilies on peg five and caught 5lb 10½oz of rudd, roach and ide for third place. Mark Scott caught a 4lb carp, small perch and roach to land fourth place with a total weight of 4lb 15oz from peg two. Harvey Greenhough, 15, fished from peg one and bagged two small carp, a tench and a roach with a total weight of 4lb 13½oz The cup was presented by Geoff Selby’s grandchildren, four-year-old Millie and five-year-old Lucas.
