Frankie and Fahey joins forces for Fair Nottingham bid
Frankie Dettori, who teams up with Richard Fahey in top company in France this weekend, takes a mount for the Malton trainer at Nottingham tomorrow and has good prospects of getting in the winning groove.
Dettori has been booked to ride nap selection Fair Flutter for Fahey in the 32Red.com Nursery Handicap and the juvenile is expected to relish this step up to ten furlongs.
Awarded a race at Beverley two outings ago, Fair Flutter finished a respectable second at Ripon last Saturday.
Dettori should have a good spin on Fair Flutter, but fingers are firmly crossed at Musley Bank that he will enjoy an even better association at Longchamp on Sunday when he renews his association with Fahey’s Sandiva in the Prix Marcel Boussac.
Dettori scored on Sandiva in France on her latest start and another victory in Sunday’s Grade 1 event would promote her to the sharp end of the ante-post betting for next season’s 1,000 Guineas.
Dettori can also land another Nottingham success for a North Yorkshire trainer aboard Eland Ally in the 32Red.com Handicap.
Tom Tate’s gelding went down narrowly at Redcar recently and a reproduction of that form may be good enough to see him home in front this time.
Dettori has another winning chance on the William Haggas-trained Veeraya in the 32Red Handicap.
Although disappointing at Chester last time, the three-year-old had previously cemented together a string of useful placed efforts at Newmarket.
Ryan Moore also looks likely to enjoy a productive afternoon.
He has winning chances aboard Merletta in the Sir Henry Cecil Slip Anchor Maiden Stakes, Adore in the Sir Henry Cecil Oh So Sharp Maiden Fillies’ Stakes and Vermont in the 32Red Casino Maiden Stakes.
At Newcastle, former champion jockey Paul Hanagan can win the STP Construction Fillies Handicap on Rufoof.
Trained by Charlie Hills, the three-year-old got off the mark at Lingfield last time and is set to race off only a 2lb higher mark here.
She should take plenty of beating.
Hanagan also teams up with Fanoos, who is an interesting runner in the SV Rutter Maiden Stakes.
Trained by Haggas, Fanoos showed promise in three outings as a juvenile but missed the whole of last season.
The fact that Haggas is persevering with Fanoos is a hint worth taking and she is not to be underestimated tomorrow.
Also worth noting at Newcastle are recent Carlisle winner Chiswick Bey (4.50) and the consistent Black Douglas (5.50).
2.00 Fair Flutter (NAP), 2.30 Merletta, 3.00 Eland Ally, 3.35 Adore, 4.10 Vermont, 4.40 Veeraya, 5.10 Absent Amy.
2.10 Think Ahead, 2.40 Nabeel
3.10 Fanoos, 3.45 Rufoof, 4.20 Hunters Belt, 4.50 Chiswick Bey, 5.20 Balinka, 5.50 Black Douglas.
Tomorrow’s other meetings: Kempton and Salisbury.
Today’s meetings: Ayr, Chepstow, Kempton and Sedgefield.
