Simon Dyson swings down memory lane in Dunhill Links opener
11:41am Friday 27th September 2013 in Sport
MEMORIES of his superb 2009 victory in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship were sparked again when York’s Simon Dyson produced a storming start to this year’s event.
Dyson began his bid for a second triumph in Scotland when he corralled the Kingsbarns course in the first round.
As part of the unique nature of the event, which also features celebrities, play is held over three courses – Kingsbarns, St Andrews and Carnoustie – before the leading 60 players regroup for the fourth and decisive round at St Andrews on Sunday.
The world number 153 got his campaign off to a flier.
Starting on the tenth hole at Kingsbarns, Dyson amassed four birdies in the space of the first six holes for a four-under-par outward nine.
Dyson was today partnering Chris Wood at St Andrews before moving across to Carnoustie tomorrow in tandem with Robert Rock as he bids to return to St Andrews on Sunday and swell his European Tour title chest to seven crowns.
