Yorkshire reach tea on 193-4 against Surrey in closing County Championship clash
Yorkshire progressed to 193-4 in the afternoon session of their LV= County Championship division one match against Surrey at the Oval but will be annoyed to have lost two wickets to the left-arm spin of Zafar Ansari.
Both the unbeaten batsmen at lunch succumbed to the 22-year-old, Kane Williamson being bowled for 23 and Phil Jaques driving the Cambridge graduate straight to Gareth Batty at short midwicket. The Australian left-hander faced 169 balls and hit 12 fours and a six in his 88.
That dismissal left Yorkshire on 169-4 but England pair Jonny Bairstow and Gary Ballance took their team safely to tea when the White Rose held a slight advantage in the final first-class match of the 2013 season.
Ansari and his skipper Batty had exerted a measure of control in the afternoon session and it remains difficult to judge what a par score might be on this pitch. Bairstow is 14 not out and Balance is on seven.
