Simon Dyson on back foot in Italian Open
10:27am Saturday 21st September 2013 in Sport
A TORTUOUS inward nine put York golf ace Simon Dyson on the back foot in the Italian Open.
Battling to extend his dynamic surge of the last three weeks, Dyson’s promising first round three-under-par 69 was gradually eroded during a much more testing second round at the Golf de Torino course in the northern city of Turin.
He eventually carded a two-over-par 74 to just make the cut for today and tomorrow’s rounds.
The world number 149 sampled a healthy opening with a birdie on the opening par-five hole. But that was erased when he had his first bogey on the eighth.
Further dropped shots followed on the 13th and 15th holes and with the cut projected at level par the 35-year-old inched perilously close to an early exit.
Chile’s Felipe Aguilar was the overnight leader on one-under-par after rounds of 69 and 66.
