Trial biking: Mark Harrison claims Sir Arthur Atkinson Cup
2:20pm Wednesday 18th September 2013 in Sport
KIRKBYMOORSIDE’S Mark Harrison grabbed the Sir Arthur Atkinson Cup with a typically consistent ride when Hull AC hosted their trial at Piethorn Farm, Helmsley.
Several riders were competing for British Championship points at Bootle, so the sections were flagged accordingly on a wet, blustery day, and Harrison beat Scarborough’s Gary Collinson by nine marks in the expert class.
The trial drew an entry of 53 despite tractor rallies and other trials taking place locally. Harrison, while riding only occasionally now, enjoyed clean rides on sections two and nine to stay ahead of Collinson.
However, it was up-and-coming youngster Jack Peace, also from Kirkbymoorside, who produced the ride of the day to win youth expert class on a score of 11, just four marks down on the experienced Harrison.
Shane Monkman, from Wombleton, and Middlesbrough’s Jak Holtby were well matched in the intermediate class, but the gully of three let Monkman down, losing nine here compared to Holtby’s ride of one.
