TERRY Temple defeated former Premier League champion Gary Anderson on his way to reaching the third round of the eighth PDC Players Championship at Barnsley.
The Whitwell-on-the-Hill ace enjoyed a 6-5 triumph over 2011 World Championship finalist Anderson and also knocked out James Hubbard (6-2) before succumbing 6-5 to German number one Jyhan Artut.
Rawcliffe’s Martyn Turner, meanwhile, lost 6-1 to five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld in the second round of the competition having earlier beaten Mark Jones 6-4.
In the second Players Championship event, held at Barnsley, Temple knocked out Jon Jukes 6-2 before losing 6-5 to Connie Finnan.
Turner fell at the first hurdle, going down 6-3 to world top-50 player Alan Tabern.
Elsewhere, Temple was also in action at the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim, where he suffered a first round exit at the hands of world number two Michael van Gerwen.
The Dutch star averaged just under 100 during a devastating display and won the first four legs without reply.
Temple rallied, though, to eventually bow out 6-2.
