Joe Danby scores hat-trick as Pickering Town beat Staveley
10:50am Monday 16th September 2013 in Sport
GO-GO Joe Danby took his tally to five goals in two games after a hat-trick dominated Pickering Town’s 6-2 conquest of visitors Staveley Miners Welfare.
The victory propelled the Pikes into eighth place in the Northern Counties East League premier division and owed much to the hosts’ second-half domination.
After Joe Danby put Pickering ahead in the 13th minute, the goals flowed between the two rivals with a Jordan Turner brace separated by a strike from midfielder Ged Dalton for a 2-2 half-time score-line.
But after the interval and once Danby bagged his second just before the hour, the Pikes took command. Besides Danby completing his triple slam there were further goals from Lewis Taylor and Nathan Cook.
Home comfort was secured by fourth-placed Tadcaster Albion, who were also deadlocked at half-time against Nostell MW.
A Ben Turner opener for the Brewers was cancelled out by a Ben Wakefield reply in the 25th minute. But Albion soared into second-half ascendency with three unanswered goals from James Coupland, Will Pepper and a Nostell defender.
The marksmanship honours for Selby Town were bagged by Nathan Kamara, who struck in the 15th and 40th minutes to clinch a maximum haul for the Robins at Dinnington Town in the NCEL first division.
A late surge was just too late for Harrogate Railway Athletic in the Evo-Stik League first division north.
Visitors Ossett Albion charged into a 3-0 goal advantage ten minutes before half-time, and despite a brace from top scorer Paul Beesley in the 61st and 83 minutes Railway suffered defeat.
Harrogate Town also lost 1-0 at home to Histon in Conference North.
